This course will introduce strategies for teaching addition and subtraction of fractions for really deep understanding. Often students don’t get enough time to play with fractions to develop a full understanding of the complexity of a fraction. We want to create opportunities for students to develop a feeling for fraction size. We will explore partitioning and iterating with manipulatives to develop relative size. We will use number lines to show fractions as numbers and values.
Learners will be introduced to routines that allow students to explore fractions in a conceptual way.
